Employee Fears Losing Her Job After Being Pulled Into Managers’ Workplace Power Struggle

When you go to work, you should be able to expect that you can show up and do a good job without too much drama.
What would you do if one of your managers was trying to get another one fired, and to do that, she was trying to get you to lie in order to get the other manager in trouble?
That is what is happening to the worker in this story, and now that she refused to help get someone fired, she feels that her job is likely on the line as well.
I think she is doing her best to act with integrity, but she definitely needs to be looking for another job. Read the full story for yourself and see if you agree.
I guess integrity doesn’t matter after all
So, I’m being subjected to retaliation from the DM who is mad that she almost lost her job because of me.
Oh, let’s get into this story.
Long story short she’s been trying to get my SM (store manager) fired because corporate doesn’t like her.
She’s been working at the company for a long time and earns the most out of the other SM’s in my district by a lot.
They should be able to fire her if they would like.
Corporate has been trying to replace my SM for a long time now, but can’t because it’s hard to fire an SM without reason.
The DM, however, has been doing multiple unethical things these past few months to try her best to get my SM fired including wrapping me up in her scheme.
So, what exactly happened?
This latest stunt was by far the worst and the DM should have been fired for it because her scheme could have also gotten me fired.
About a month ago the DM came to my store and she came here on purpose when I was MOD (manager on duty).
Training team members is important.
She told me she wanted to do the store visit with me without my SM. We did the store visit and she acted helpful, like she wanted to teach me things beyond my job criteria, I thought it was great.
That was until it came to employees training modules. She wanted me to help an employee do a training module that they hadn’t completed.
It seems that she is trying to trap this person.
I went to do that and she immediately told me that I was doing it wrong. She said your not supposed to log into the computer, they have to log into the computer.
She then decided to whip out a stack of papers and demanded I write a statement about how managers at my store conduct training modules.
This seems like a good way to do training, to me.
I wrote down exactly what we do, we don’t ever do the training models for anybody.
We just make sure employees are able to log in so they can do them without issue because we’ve had problems in the past with employees constantly forgetting their logins or forgetting it’s time to complete a new training module.
She is being very shady.
They come into the office, sit at the computer and do their training models while us managers take over their tasks until they complete their training models for the day, it’s all pretty standard stuff.
But the DM, she demanded I write it all down, but then after I was finished writing it all down the DM then rolled her eyes and I heard her say under her breath, “darn it, SM is gonna see this on the camera”.
I don’t think I would do anything she asked for.
She then turned around and told me to put my SM’s name on the statement. I asked her why and she said she again told me to make sure I put my SM’s name on the statement.
So, I went back an edited the statement like she wanted. I saw at the top of the paper that I was filling out a volunteer statement.
Now what is she doing?
She told me to leave after I edited my statement and work on something while she helped the employee do their training model.
I came back into the office after a short while and I saw she had that employee write another statement.
Do not trust this woman.
The DM then told me that she would discuss everything that happened that day with my SM and that I didn’t need to mention anything.
She also said she was going to hold those statements and keep them to herself.
Why am I not surprised at this?
So, I ended my shift and went home. I come back and find out the DM lied and told my SM nothing.
I told my SM what happened and my SM told me what those volunteer statements are usually used for.
All of this could blow back on her.
After talking with my SM I realized that the DM was going to use those statements to get my SM fired for training modules.
The thing is that can get all management fired, so I could get caught up in the crosshairs if the DM tried to use what I wrote against my SM.
Hopefully what the manager did is well documented.
I looked up in the company handbook and found out that nobody can EVER tell you want to write in a statement.
It is considered falsification of company documents and the person doing it will be terminated immediately upon discovery of the infraction.
Good! I hope she has the needed proof.
So, I reported this to HR because I didn’t like the DM using me like that to get at my SM and potentially taking me down for something we didn’t do.
We never do employees modules for them ever, so I felt I had no choice but to report her.
I was hoping she would be fired on the spot.
Well, after a week I heard the DM had to go to a meeting and could not be disturbed.
After the meeting the DM was mad, I mean royally mad. I learned from another coworker at a different store that the DM almost got fired for a report that came in against her.
Now this person’s job is on the line.

She definitely knew it was me who made the report because she came to my store and had a huge fight with my SM about how our store is bad and not up to par.
I’ve been getting write ups for absolute nonsense by the DM and it seems quite obvious the DM is trying to get us both fired by micromanaging us out of a job.
She is in a very bad situation, that’s for sure.
I honestly don’t know what to do about it tbh, I’m scared to report the DM again because she’s retaliating so bad against our store.
She even put us on a PiP and we have 90 days to fix nonsense issues or face disciplinary action.
I hope that she is looking for a new job.
We have a hotline to HR called integrity matters, well to me it seems integrity doesn’t matter at all at this company because I’m being punished for speaking up against a serious policy violation and I have no idea if I will have a job next week, next month, I doubt I could even last to next year.
It’s been unreal.
It is awful when a company, or even just a manager, has it out for you and is trying to get you fired. Sometimes there is just nothing you can do.

She needs to play the game.

This commenter is right.

A paper trail is very important in this situation.

Keep reporting her to HR.

Hopefully, she has a union she can work with.

Document everything and report it whenever possible. At the end of the day, however, this person is likely going to lose her job. She should be applying to other positions right away.
It is sad, but true, that the manager and HR clearly have it out for them.
