She Let Her Mom Move In With Her — But Said Her Mom’s Boyfriend Needs a Job or They’re Both Out

If you open your home to someone and allow them to stay there for a while, they should respect the rules of the house, be productive, and pitch in.

It seems like common sense, right?

Well, in theory…

But we all know how that can work out sometimes!

In today’s story, a young woman didn’t hold back as she explained why she’s having some serious issues with her mom and boyfriend…who both happen to be living with her.

Get all the details below and see what you think.

AITA for telling my mom her boyfriend needs a job by October or they have to move out?

“I’m 23F and live with my boyfriend, 23M. We’ve been together for 4 years and have had our own apartment for the last 3 years.

About a month after we got our first apartment, my mom asked if she could move in with us because of her situation. She’s disabled and doesn’t work or receive Social Security, so I wanted to help her out.

Oh, boy…

The problem is, about two months after she moved in, she brought her boyfriend with her without really asking us. At the time we only had a 1-bedroom apartment, so my mom was sleeping on the couch and they were both living there.

When our lease was up the next year, my boyfriend and I decided to get a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment so my mom could at least have her own room and bathroom.

She doesn’t want to deal with this guy…

We agreed that her boyfriend would not be moving in with us because he refuses to work.

He’s 43, and in the entire time he’s lived with us, he’s only had a job for about two weeks before quitting.

Neither of them pays anything toward rent, utilities, groceries, or other household expenses.

This is ridiculous.

Between the extra bedroom, utilities, groceries, and other things, I’d say we’re spending around $600 extra a month because they live with us.

I also want to clarify that I pay the majority of our household bills because I make more than my boyfriend.

So while my boyfriend and I both contribute, a larger portion of the financial responsibility falls on me.

I understand that my mom is genuinely sick and I don’t expect her to magically become healthy or get a job when she physically can’t. But at the same time, I’m 23 and trying to support my own household and build my own life.

This is crazy!

I really don’t mind helping my mom, but I’m getting frustrated with also having to support her boyfriend. I’ve told my mom multiple times that I need him to get a job and at least help with some of the expenses.

Our lease is up in October, and I told her that if he still doesn’t have a job by then, they’re going to have to move out. My grandmother has her own house and land, and my mom could stay with her, so she wouldn’t be homeless or without somewhere to go.

The main thing she wouldn’t be able to do there is smoke inside.

This needs to end…

What really gets to me is that my boyfriend and I have never really gotten to experience living on our own. Every apartment we’ve had, my mom has ended up living with us too.

I feel bad because she’s my mom and I want to help her, but at the same time, I don’t think it’s fair for me and my boyfriend to keep paying for two adults indefinitely, especially when her boyfriend is capable of working but chooses not to.

AITA for giving my mom an October deadline and telling her that if her boyfriend doesn’t get a job, they’ll have to move out?”

Well, these two sound like a lot of fun, don’t you think?

I’ll never understand how folks can freeload off of others and not feel guilty about it.

But it sure seems like there are a lot of people out there like this!

She needs to stand her ground on this and not let her mom’s boyfriend live with them!
