Imagine studying for a test, and your dad asks you to give him a massage. Would you do it, or would you refuse?

In this story, one teen is in this situation, and he really seems annoyed with his dad. He has stood up to his dad multiple times, but his dad never takes it well.

Now, he’s not sure if he’s being unreasonable or if his dad is being unreasonable.

Keep reading for the whole story.

AITA for saying NO to my dad?

Me and my siblings are obliged to massage our dad EVERY night.

Back when we were younger, we didn’t really mind to massage him since he was usually not at home and only comes home during weekends and vacations when me and my siblings were not that busy with school.

Due to the pandemic, my dad lost his job so he’s at home everyday.

Here’s what his parents are doing for work.

My mom and dad are now operating our food business and drives to the next town on our motorcycle with mom, everyday.

I understand that it can be very tiring because he’s the one who always drive and cooks in our business.

Since he’s becoming old, he has more body pain and as usual, we massage him at night.

They don’t always want to follow his rules.

Here’s the deal, he wants us to massage him before he sleeps, like in a pampering him in a way.

He does a rollcall of us upstairs and we got to the bedroom to massage him. When he doesn’t do the rollcall or we don’t go upstairs voluntarily, we don’t massage him and he just sleeps.

Sometimes, on nights where we are working on our requirements, we tell him that we’re busy and the deadline is before midnight so we can’t massage him before he sleeps.

And when we do that, we are now “brats” who are “disobedient” and “ingrates”.

Their dad doesn’t care about their explanation.

I tried explaining to him that we could still massage him after we finish our requirements but he reasons out that the time we use to massage him could also be our time for resting, in which me and my siblings DOES NOT consider as rest in any way.

We also tell him that we have to finish first our requirements to meet deadlines but he wants us to prioritize massaging him (there are nights when he just says OK but we still have to massage him after even if we’re tired).

As someone with anger issues and a loud voice, there have been times where I explained to my dad in an angry way so I know that I have been disrespectful towards my dad sometimes.

Exams are important.

I also want to add that there are days that we can’t massage like for 3 days straight since we’re preparing for exams or reports and he just lets it be.

Last month, I was very busy on my report and I slept at 6am already (still have online classes at 9am) and my dad kind of woke up so he was asking me to massage him.

My eyes were hurting from looking at the screen too long and my hands were tired from typing all night BUT he still wants me to massage him.

This didn’t go well.

I told him NO and that I’m tired and I could always just massage him the next day and he just says “I will remember this time when you did not obey me”.

I remember crying myself to sleep because my mental health can’t take this kind of treatment.

So, AITA?

Is their dad being unreasonable, or are they really “brats”?

Let’s see what Reddit thinks.

This is a good question.

I’m going to be honest. When I first started reading this, I thought “massage” was a typo and that OP really meant “message” like sending a text. I assumed he meant his dad wanted him to send him a text every night before he went to sleep like to say “goodnight” because maybe the dad wasn’t always home when the kids went to sleep. That scenario made sense to me.

But the more I read, the more I realized that it wasn’t a typo, and the whole massage thing does not make sense at all to me.

This is creepy and weird. The dad is a bad parent. Where is the mom in all of this?

They need to keep saying no to their dad.
