Some households run tense and sometimes a family argument starts over something so small that by the end of it everyone is wondering how they got there.

In this case, a woman ended up hurting her mom’s feelings without realizing it over tea.

Her mom had come home from work and they have a routine where she makes tea for everyone when she arrives. But this time there wasn’t enough milk for everyone. And this was enough to cause a misunderstanding.

AITA for not making tea for my mother?

So this is a really weird situation and I’m not even sure what to make of it.

My mom is a school teacher. Usually after she returns from school I offer to make tea for her and my dad if he is at home and myself.

Today dad wasn’t at home and there was only enough milk to make tea for two people.

I called him and asked him to get more milk and also if he wanted to have tea. He said yes and that he’ll be home in 10 mins.

But alas…

I kinda like said/asked her that I’ll make the tea once dad comes so that I wouldn’t have to make it again AND my mom nodded.

Just after that we had a mini argument about dirty dishes in the sink.

I explained that I wasn’t the one putting the dirty dishes and I always wash my dish with water before placing it in the sink but she still pretty much kinda sorta raised her voice at me.

I just let it be because she had a long day at school and she was tired.

She was trying her best.

She went to bed.

5 mins after that I just decided to make the tea anyway for her and me and I’d make more for my dad when he came.

I made it and took it to her room and she refused to have it and said she’ll have it later. I offered twice and she still said no so I said okay and kept it away.

10 mins later my dad came home, I gave that tea to him and I would make fresh tea for my mom when she would’ve asked.

Sometime later I went again and I asked her when she would eat but she didn’t respond and said later again.

There was no proper communication.

She was giving me the cold shoulder which I had understood by now but I just assumed it was because of the dishes.

My dad went and spoke to her after this.

He then came and told me that she is crying because I didn’t make tea for her and now she refuses to have dinner tonight and I’m like ??????

But I did make it for her and I told him the whole story and he just said it’s my mistake.

I’ve always had to tiptoe around my mom but I genuinely cannot wrap my head around how this was my fault.

I was studying when she came and making tea for all of us together would have been the quickest solution but even then, I went ahead and made it and gave it to her AND she flat out refused and now somehow it’s my fault? Was it really even my fault??
