Couple Got Suspicious When Meat Raffle Organizers and Their Friends Kept Winning—So They Spoke Up and Everyone Started Staring

A raffle only works if people believe everyone has a fair shot at winning.
One woman says she and her husband stopped at a local bar and decided to buy tickets for a meat raffle.
At first, everything seemed normal, but then one of the organizers won right after the group had been handling the ticket bucket.
After that, more people connected to the raffle kept winning the better prizes.
Eventually, the couple spoke up and said they thought the drawing might be rigged, and suddenly everyone acted as they were the ones who did something wrong.

My husband and I recently stumbled upon a meat raffle at a local bar. The venue was quiet, and we had a clear view of the raffle table. When an item we liked came up, we decided to buy a few tickets to support the cause.
That is when things got strange.
After selling tickets for that round, the organizers returned to the table, turned their backs to the room, and spent a noticeable amount of time fiddling with the ticket bucket. While they might have just been separating the tickets, the lack of transparency was concerning.
It didn’t take too long for them to realize that the raffle was rigged.
Moments later, they drew the winning ticket, and one of the raffle organizers won.
We were surprised that staff could participate, and it felt unethical.
The pattern continued. For the next desirable item, a friend sitting right at the raffle table won. For the item after that, the person announcing the winners on the microphone won.
At this point, we were convinced the raffle was rigged. A man wearing the uniform of the beneficiary organization sat next to us to buy a drink and tried to talk up the event. We flatly told him we suspected the drawing was fixed.
Suddenly, everyone started acting like they were the bad guys.
Word traveled fast. The person holding the ticket bucket approached us, clearly offended, and defensively asked if we wanted to draw the next winner. We declined, wanting no part of it.
The bartender drew the next ticket instead, and a regular patron won.
We decided it was time to go. As we walked past the raffle table to leave, the entire group stared us down as if we were the bad guys.

Wowzers. They seemed to get awfully defensive.
