Her mother-in-law sounds like a nightmare!
My reasoning for not being okay with it is because I have stuff there I do not want kids to see or touch. My collectables, a few spicy romance books and so on.
That’s certainly advice worth heeding.
Her grandmother needs to accept that she’s not a little kid anymore.
It could literally save your life.
If you truly feel that living somewhere is going to cause you more problems than it solves, that’s all you need to know.
