Parenting choices can sometimes clash with other people’s preferences.

In this story, a woman set a clear rule about feeding her baby. She prefers giving him whole and healthy foods.

However, she noticed that family members and godparents would feed him sugary treats, processed foods, and even soda.

After repeated incidents, she decided to stop visits to protect her boundaries as a parent.

Do you think she was being too harsh? Or do you agree with her decision?

AITA for getting frustrated that people keep feeding my baby things I specifically said not to?

My baby is 8 months old.

Since starting solids, I have been intentional about what I feed him.

I explained to my godparents/adopted parents that I do not want him having sugar, processed foods, or pork right now. My goal is to help him develop healthy eating habits early.

I also want him to get used to whole, nutrient-dense foods while his palate is developing.

This woman noticed that family and in-laws would ignore her wishes.

The issue is that every time they keep him for a few hours, they completely ignore my wishes.

I have sent him with his own food from home. But they still insist on giving him whatever they want instead.

Their attitude is basically that when he is with them, it is their choice what he eats.

She found out that they were giving him pork and soda.

Recently, I found out they were giving him pork and letting him try organic soda.

That was kind of my last straw. I decided to tell them I will not be bringing him over for a while.

I feel like our boundaries as his parents are not being respected.

At the same time, I feel conflicted. They have genuinely helped us a lot since he was born. They love him very much.

She’s wondering if keeping her baby away from them is being overly dramatic.

I know they probably think I am overdoing it or that I am being too strict.

I have even tried sharing the research and educational resources that helped me make these decisions. But they do not really read or watch them.

So now, I am wondering if I am overreacting by taking a step back from visits over this. Or if it is reasonable to expect people caring for your child to follow your rules about food even if they disagree with them.

It’s normal for mothers to set rules and boundaries for their babies.

And it’s really annoying if other people don’t respect these wishes. For me, it feels like intentionally crossing a line.

Taking a step back seems like a reasonable way to reinforce those limits.
